Gitesi Muama #1, Rwanda

Gitesi is a private washing station owned and run by a Father and Son team, Alexis and Aime Gahizi. The name Mu-ama is an abbreviation of Mugire Amahoro meaning “Go in peace”. Alexis is originally from the Karongi District where Gitesi is located. His family has been growing coffee in this region for generations.

Gitesi has strong relationships with the farmers in the local community who deliver cherry to Gitesi. This includes managing a coffee nursery with between 15,000 and 50,000 coffee trees which are distributed to the coffee farmers at no cost to the farmer. Gitesi also have run a number of sustainability programs. They are CAFÉ Practices and Rainforest Alliance Certified. They have a modern waste-water management system and produce fertilizer through coffee pulp.
